with flu season right around the corner i have something that will make you feel warm and tingly all over! its easy, delicious and can help soothe that sore throat.
i'm sure you've seen it around the asian super market. its in a jar marked "citron honey tea" and its contents has a similar consistency to jam? my local asian supermarket had a deal on them and i was going to pick one up until i looked at the ingredients. the first one was ... dun dun dun ... high fructose corn syrup ... what else? being health conscious and all, i put it back. :(
after some researching, i realized that this concentrate was quite easy to make at home. all i needed was a jar, honey, anything citrus-y ( lemons in my case ) and ginger! so i set out to make my own homemade "citron honey tea" :D while making it, i suddenly found that i couldn't stop watching the honey slowly seep in between the slices of honey. it reminded me of ants digging tunnels in an ant farm. i have no idea why but i couldn't help but watch!
make sure to let the mixture sit for at least 24 hours. the lemon juice from the lemon will combine with the honey and create a syrup. the end result is lemon honey with a hint of ginger concentrate that will go great with any tea or even water!
[ babybearhints-- add fresh lemon juice to crystallized honey to get it back to that runny consistency. ]
citron honey ginger tea concentrate.
just add 2 tablespoons of the concentrate to 8 ounces of water or tea and enjoy! :)
what you'll need:
ingredients:
directions:
final notes:
after a couple of days i found that my concentrate was too runny and that the lemon overpowered everything. luckily for me the fix was simple: add more grated ginger and honey. what i love most about this is that you can add extra ingredients at any time. half a lemon leftover from that other recipe? slice it up and put it in the concentrate. its a bottomless pit of citron honey concentrate :) here's to not getting sick....
